Session Tips - Kai Sotto

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR SESSION:

FAMILY PORTRAITS

1. Please choose your clothing carefully - The best color for outfits are creams, very soft pastels, light browns, grays, and slate blues. You can also color coordinate your outfits by adding an accessory to each member of your family that are the same color. If you want, check out Pinterest for outfit inspirations.

2. Please rest up and eat before our session.

3. Make sure to plan ahead and have enough time to get ready. Leave plenty of time for showers, baths, dressing, and grooming. When you rush out, it will show in the photos.

4. Advice for Dad - Please cheerfully participate. Many dads dread the family photo session, but please understand how important capturing your family photo is. These images will be lifelong memories, a legacy for when your children are grown. Family photos are treasured forever and they are so important. Please cheerfully participate in your family photo session. Once you see your happy wife and amazing photographs, you will be so glad that you gave this time to your family.

5. For parents - please leave the “cheese” at home. Cheese is for crackers. Many parents who stand behind the photographer and scream, “Say cheese kids!” yelling and demanding young children to look at the camera to smile will only stress your children out (not to mention the photographer) and will result in strained, unnatural and often unflattering photographs. Step back, and allow the photographer to naturally interact and talk with your children. This will result in natural, gorgeous smiles. Help the photographer capture the true essence of your child’s personality by talking with and coaxing out those smiles naturally and easily.

6. Bring an activity that your family enjoys together. This is optional but bringing something that your family enjoys can make the session more fun. Something like playing sports, having a picnic or even just having ice cream can add to the photo session.

7. For babies and toddlers, please bring a special toy or anything else that will get their attention while shooting. This will streamline our session and keep it enjoyable for your little toddler.

8. Lastly, have fun!
